The Importance of a new bed

A few extra winks at night can make all the difference between a great day and a hard one. A great sleep not only boosts your energy levels, it improves your immune system, makes your more mentally alert, enhances your memory and mood, and assists in slowing the ageing process.

Having a bed that is right for your body type and sleep habits is vital; yet often buying a bed is something people rush through. Spend time trying out different models, and speaking to the Farmers team about your sleeping habits to help them find the right bed for you.

Purchasing a bed isn’t an expense; it’s an investment in your long-term health and wellbeing. Every $1000 you spend equates to just 27cents per night over a 10-year ownership period. For this reason alone it’s worth investing in a quality bed.

The best bed for you isn’t necessarily the most expensive

Sleepyhead has a wide range of beds to cater to everyone’s unique comfort preference and need. It’s the internal foam and springs within the bed that gives your body support, while the pillow top gives you the level of softness on top of the bed. Everyone has a different comfort preference, so try a few beds out in store and decide whether you prefer a thinner comfort layer (firm) or a deeper comfort layer (soft).

A mattress’ average lifespan is 8-10 years

A mattress can deteriorate up to 75% from its original new condition after 10 years.

    Old beds are unhygienic

Over time, dampness is absorbed from the air and your body, and builds up within a mattress. This dampness not only contributes to a feeling of cold when you sleep, it is also a breeding ground for bacteria and dust mites. While a mattress protector can help to slow down moisture absorption, it’s still vital to purchase a new bed every 8-10 years.

    Size matters

Space around you when you sleep helps to ensure a deeper, undisturbed sleep for both you and your partner. If you’re sleeping with a partner, it’s recommended you should opt for at least a queen bed in size, and if needed even a king or super king to offer extra space. When choosing your bed size it pays to think about who else might be joining you — if kids or pets often sleep with you, you may require more space.

    Partner disturbance can be minimised

A small amount of movement by you or your partner can mean a disturbed sleep for the other party. A common problem for many people, partner disturbance can be minimised with Sleepyhead’s modern technologies, as found in the Sensorzone and Swisstek ranges.

    We’re all unique

Everyone has a unique shape and size, and the bed requirements of a ballet dancer will be different from that of an All Black. Speak to the Farmers sales team about the level of support your body needs, to help them find the perfect sleep for you.
